Tues, 2/5 F&E Log – Paleo Day 1

Day started 8:15 am (I overslept!)

I woke up today with determination to focus on nutrition goals and after significant research on the Paleo Diet or “Caveman Diet” I have officially started. I must say it has not been easy, but its much easier than I thought. I am trying my best – but I’ve already broken a few of the rules…(unknowingly).

From thepaleodiet.com –
“The Paleo Diet, the world’s healthiest diet – is based upon eating wholesome, contemporary foods from the food groups that our hunter-gatherer ancestors would have thrived on during the Paleolithic era, or Stone Age.”

Read about the Primary Characteristics of the Paleo Diet in full detail

The diet recognizes the allergens and acid load on your kidneys from processed foods, dairy, grains and legumes so those items are removed from consumption.

Decades of research by creator, Dr. Loren Cordain and his scientific colleagues demonstrate that hunter-gatherers typically were free from the chronic illnesses and diseases that are epidemic in Western populations, including:

Obesity
Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, atherosclerosis)
Type 2 diabetes
Cancer
Autoimmune diseases (multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, etc.)
Osteoporosis
Acne
Myopia (nearsightedness), macular degeneration, glaucoma
Varicose veins, hemorrhoids, diverticulosis, gastric reflux
Gout

So that’s a quick inside look into Paleo. It’s not a fad diet. It seems to pull some weight. So I guess ill try it and see how my body feels over the next month. The recipes are super easy and fun to make! Not to mention low carbs typically mean weight loss happens quickly. So far not having any trouble except overeating veggies, which I don’t guess is such a bad thing. 🙂
